DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Over the past week the Arch Design + Build students have been developing their initial schemes into a more limited number of developed schemes.  These final design process schemes are shown below. As always, the challenge is that we have more good ideas than we can build.  Some of these awesome schemes will have to wait for the future, as we can only build one scheme this summer.

SCHEME 01: A-FRAME

SCHEME 02: PARABOLIC CURVE

SCHEME 03: CORNUCOPIA #2

SCHEME 04: INVERTED SHED

SCHEME 05: RECTANGULAR ROOF

SCHEME 06: ROTATED RECTANGULAR ROOF

Ultimately, we decided to develop a final design scheme based on a combination of ideas from the rectangular roof and rotated rectangle schemes.  We felt that these two schemes served our clients needs the best.  However, the design is evolving rapidly as we address issues of structure and begin incorporating other ideas from all of the schemes into the final design.

Below are some images from the past two days as the roof structure begins to be resolved.

FIRST STUDIES

Today we had our first design critique.

These are first studies.  Sketches in three dimensions.  Brainstorming through models.

None of these are quite yet ready for the world to see, however, there are some very compelling design schemes on that wall.  Through iteration and refinement we will discover our project in these first ideas.

While these schemes are not yet ready to be built, somewhere in all of this is the 'seed' for the structure that we will construct later this summer.
